FAQs
What happens in a sensory class?
At Wriggle Monsters sensory classes, we excite your baby’s curiosity of the world around them through multi-sensory activities.
With a new theme every week, you and your little ones will have something new to look forward to from one week to the next. And we don’t mean using your imagination: with each new theme you’ll see a complete transformation of the sensory space.
Are sensory classes any good for babies?
Sensory play groups are a great way to support your baby in their development and enhance their learning experiences. Sensory activities help your baby develop their senses, such as sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, as well as encourage their natural curiosity and exploration.
Wriggle Monsters sensory classes are also a great opportunity to bond with your baby and interact with other parents. Here, you’ll find yourself part of a supportive community and positive environment for both you and your little one in their first year.

When should babies start sensory classes?
Babies can attend Wriggle Monsters sensory classes as early as a few days old. Our classes cater for newborns right through to 13 months old. The class content is specifically designed to be inclusive for all babies in this age range, regardless of their developmental stage. For instance, at the newborn stage, there is a focus on simple and gentle activities that stimulate your baby's developing senses and encourage exploration and promote bonding.
Should I take my baby to baby classes?
There are so many reasons why classes are great for babies, but not only is it important for them, it’s important for you and your wellbeing, too. Whether it’s through sensory development classes for babies or other baby groups, it’s important to break the isolation that so often comes with maternity leave.
You go from having a routine, a job, and an identity, then BAM! All of a sudden, your sole identity and job title is parent. Adjusting to that is hard, especially in modern times. Our need to connect has never been greater.
If you feel anxious about joining a sensory class, just know that you’re like almost every other parent out there. It’s normal to worry. What if my baby cries and I can’t settle them? What if I say something stupid? What if I’m judged because my baby isn’t developing as quickly as others? It’s quite normal to have these thoughts. That’s your maternal instinct kicking in.
And it's easy to feel trapped and remove yourself from situations than it is to face the world. I've experienced that first-hand. And that was a huge motive for me to start Wriggle Monsters and create a safe space for others out there. Not just for your babies, but for you reading this too – to support parents.
The important thing to remember is that we never get this time back. Come along and join others who have felt the exact same way. Come experience the magic of Wriggle Monsters and make memories you can treasure forever.
Why do babies need sensory activities?
Babies need sensory stimulation because it supports their development and growth in several ways. Some of the benefits of sensory activities in early childhood include:
Stimulating the senses: sensory activities help stimulate a baby's developing senses, such as sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. This helps your baby learn to process and make sense of the world around them.
Encouraging exploration: sensory activities encourage a baby to explore their environment, which helps them develop their problem-solving skills.
Enhancing crucial language and communication skills: sensory activities support a baby's language development by exposing them to different sounds, words, and musical rhythms.
Supporting physical development: sensory activities support a baby's physical development, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills by encouraging movement and coordination through reaching, grabbing, and crawling.
Promoting relaxation and stress relief: sensory activities calm and relax babies, which promotes feelings of wellbeing. It also supports social and emotional development.
Encouraging bonding: sensory activities provide a fun opportunity for parents and caregivers to bond with their baby and connect with them on a deeper level, promoting the release of the hormone oxytocin.
